The California Press Foundation is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Hilda Martinez to its Board of Directors. Martinez is the Senior Communications Officer at the California Health Care Foundation, where she leads strategic communication initiatives to advance health equity and improve health care for all Californians.
A former MSNBC journalist and award-winning communications professional, Martinez brings more than 20 years of experience in public relations, communications, and marketing, with a career spanning the higher education, health care and nonprofit sectors. She has led major statewide campaigns and managed multimillion-dollar initiatives to promote public policy, equity, and community engagement.
"I am excited to join the board of the California Press Foundation and support its vital work strengthening local journalism across the state,” Martinez said. “The organization's focus on journalism education and creating pathways for the next generation of reporters is both inspiring and essential. I am proud to help advance this mission at such a critical time for the future of news in California."
Martinez holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Harvard University and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, the Los Angeles Press Club and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
“Hilda’s career reflects the power of strategic storytelling to create lasting impact,” said Chairperson Eric Johnston. “We’re so excited to welcome her to the board. There is no doubt her vision will be invaluable as we continue to work toward a stronger and more inclusive journalism landscape in California."
